Pet insurance Recommendations please.

Last Dog past away earlier this year.Was going to leave it but got offered a puppy last week.Didn’t have insurance with the last one was going to get insurance for the puppy.Any advice or recommendations.I expect the normal abuse TIA.Gluck

Like all insurance policies, it seems like poor value unless you have a large claim. It does however provide peace of mind, which you cannot quantify when doing the arithmetic. Unless you have plenty of cash in the bank which you could always call on to pay a bill of thousands if needed, I think it's worth having a policy. You are always advised to get a "lifetime" policy so that any medical condition will continue to be covered provided you stick with the same insurer.

Pay 34.00 a month... 13 year old lab... bit pointless really... not being funny but if he gets anything now hardly going to have treatment... last 2 dogs we have had insurance... claims? nil.... however mate has got a 2 year old brit bulldog.... claims? 3 and counting... eyelid being done this week...

What Dicko says is right as long as you do put the money aside (which you won't).

We paid approx. £28pm for 9 years to Pet Plan. Our gorgeous dog was put to sleep a couple of months ago after a short illness... the cover was limited to £2k for each treatment. We only ever claimed once (which they did pay without any hassle).

Basically check the terms of your cover. £2k limit seemed a bit stingy in hindsight.

Insurance Emporium paid out thousands for my dog with no quibbles.

You need lifetime cover and don’t chop and change insurers otherwise you aren’t covered for any pre existing conditions on your dogs vet notes.

I just did a quote on that Wiggle for my Springer puppy. £32.50 pm, with £200 excess + 10% of the bill.

Absolutely don’t recommend Animal Friends who are basically legalised robbers.

As others have said, put the premiums under your mattress and unless you’re really unlucky you’ll be quids in when the animal dies.

I reckon I paid £4k over my dogs life then when we had a bill for £600 at the end they managed to whittle our claim down to a £40 payout.

There is a French pet insurance company that you get no quibbles and all is sorted sharpish, it has nothing to do with that Swedish pop band either.....

.....abbatoir.com.....they then get sent to one of those Southeast Asian countries for recuperation.....or is it consumption?

PetPlan. Our last dog was on pills costing thousands a year for several years of his life, so it was VERY well worth it. That was just because of a skin condition - he also had cancer several times and multiple operations.

Current dickhead isn't getting the same value out of it (despite also having skin issues), but he has his moments.

Worth getting if you don’t have much spare cash floating around. Obviously it’s highly unlikely but imagine being unable to treat your beloved pet because you couldn’t afford it.

Pet plan used to be by far the Best Buy also the priciest

As Dicko says but get a quote then put that money into an account each month. Unless you get a complete wrong un should pay all vets bills, food, treats and have money to spare

Just save the £30 a month and get an unemployed mate to take it to the PDSA if/when it’s ill and put the money in the collection box.

Win win all round.

Don’t bother. Like any insurance it’s a waste of money. If you’re worried about bills then bank the equivalent premium yourself and you’ll almost certainly have money left when the dog dies
